K-9's and Kids. A day in the park to raise money for the local police Department to buy a k-9 unit
On September 7th 2002 from 12:00PM through 6:00 PM area businesses and the communities members will come together at an event called K9s and Kids: to help raise money for the police department to purchase the canines.
It is true that The City of DuBois and the surrounding communities enjoy a relatively peaceful quality of life in which outside communities may envy. However, it is a fact that The Greater DuBois Area is not immune to the same types of problems that other communities face. The evidence to this fact lies within our own news media. As a community we owe it to the men and women who work and volunteer their time so diligently to keeping our communities a safe place to live, to each other, and to ourselves to assume our roles as members of our community by taking an active interest in the continued growth and well being of DuBois and its surrounding communities.
The City Of DuBois Police Department has identified a need for 2 canine units, one search and rescue, patrol and drug dog and one bomb-sniffing canine. These animals would aid in the efforts of our law enforcement in the continued defense and safety of our communities and community members. The benefits of these working canines include but are not limited to decreased search and rescue times, increased officer safety, more efficient and effective narcotic and bomb searches, and reduced offender apprehension time; freeing our law enforcement to continue to keep our communities a safe place to live and work. However, these police dogs and their benefits come at a financial cost that the police department cannot endure alone.
CellularOne and Q102 have teamed up with The Greater DuBois Area Chamber of Commerce to raise $30,000 for the purchase and continued maintenance of these police dogs. On September 7th 2002 from 12:00PM through 6:00 PM area businesses and the communities members will come together at an event called K9s and Kids: in The DuBois City Park to show their support and help raise the money for the police department to purchase the canines.
Businesses and other community members who wish to participate in this joint effort can do so through financial donations, merchandise donations (merchandise will be auctioned at on September 7), and by volunteering service the day of the event. Additionally, any businesses or community members who would like to setup a display both the day of K9s & Kids may do so for fee of $150.00. All proceeds from this event in the park will be given to the police department for the purchase and continued care of the dogs. If you or your organization is willing to participate in this event or make a donation you may do so by contacting The Greater DuBois Area Chamber of Commerce at 814-375-5010. Financial donations can also be mailed directly to the city at the following address:
