West Chester, PA - August 1, 2002 -- StorNet, a leading nationwide provider of networked storage services, today announced the winners of its first annual Poster Scholarship Contest. The contest was developed to benefit art students who are currently enrolled as art, photography, or graphics arts majors at universities and art institutes nationwide. Of the 52 entries received, the works of 12 students were chosen as winners. Four first-prize winners will receive $1000 each, four second-prize winners will receive $250 each, and four third-prize winners will receive $100. The artwork of the winners will be used in StorNet's promotional campaigns and will be highlighted in a 2003 calendar to be distributed to StorNet's customers and prospects. To see the winning artwork, go to www.stornet.com/contest.
According to Marie Gordon, Marketing Communications Director, StorNet, the idea of the contest was to show students that there is a crossover between creativity and technology. "We wanted students pursuing creative endeavors to know that their work is important in the technology sector. Winning entrants not only receive cash scholarships, they also walk away with viable, published work for their portfolios. And because our panel of judges were the top art directors, graphic designers/artists and editors in the technological publishing world, entrants get a good idea of the styles of work that they should highlight when beginning their post-college job searches."
The contest was sponsored by Qualstar Corporation, a leading manufacturer of automated tape libraries used for backup, archival storage, disaster protection and storage management applications, and Legato Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in enterprise storage management software solutions and services that keep the world's business-critical information and applications available.
Judges for the contest included graphics and editorial pros from a variety of business and technical publications, each of whom volunteered his or her time to the contest. Judges liked the idea that students were given a chance to gain exposure to the world of technology publishing, and to win a bit of cash in the bargain. Said Meg Fuschetti, ATD Group Art Director, Pennwell Publishing, InfoStor Magazine, "I'm very impressed that your company would take the time and effort, not to mention money, to do something like this, I think it's wonderful!"
