Arthur k's (formerly known as Wolfendales) debuts monday august 5th.
"And thats not all that is changing", chef and owner Kurt Schuller declared with a broad smile.
"Fans of the old Wolfendales will not be disapointed" Schuller reasurred. "Arthur k's will have everything that Wolfendales had and more!
Much more!"
Arthur ks will have the same great ribs, great steaks and the same humble chef
and owner," Said Schuller smiling slyly. Schuller has operated Wolfendales since April of 1996.
He declared that the new restaurant, Arthur ks, would have everything the old restaurant had and more.
More variety, more casual, more value, and more fun." He said confidently.
So why the change?
Two reasons. Something about the name Wolfendales gave people the impression that it was a real fancy place. I still get calls every week asking me what the dress code is. So when customers were looking for a nice casual place to go we wouldnt even be considered. The truth is we have always been a great place to go anytime but our name didnt indicate that to a lot of people."
I asked Schuller if he was afraid that the name change might confuse customer.
Actually, that is the second reason for the change. A lot of people had trouble remembering the old name. They would have a great dinner here and then the name would slip their mind. When I called the local restaurant critic, Dennis Getto of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, he told me that he received several calls every year asking about that nice restaurant in Sussex, and what was its name, because they had forgotten."
So whats to stop people from forgetting Arthur ks?
Schuller chuckled. People will have to see that for themselves, that is part of the fun aspect I mentioned earlier. But I will say this, once they have eaten here, I think they will find it very hard to forget."
So what is new on the menu?
We have added several new appetizers, such as swimming blue crab cakes with a salsa ranch sauce, and almond breaded duck tenders with a honey sesame sauce. We have always had a fantastic Caesar salad and now you can have it many different ways for a nice light dinner. You can top it with Cajun chicken, duck, shrimp, portabella mushroom, steak or any combination that you like."
For entrees, we have added a killer jambalaya, chicken carbonara, battered salmon, a fantastic stuffed and breaded tenderloin, and much to the delight of my regular customers, we have brought back our Pork Porterhouse, a one pound porterhouse chop marinated in gin and olive oil, juniper berries, rosemary and thyme. We have also added a half pound black angus hamburger and a chicken breast sandwich as well. Dinner prices for the new Arthur ks start at 8.25."
In addition to operating Wolfendales since 1996, Schuller has quite an impressive resume. He started his career with The Black Kettle, where he worked until 1979. In 1982 he joined the staff at Jakes on North Avenue, where he worked his way up to executive chef over the two locations that were operating at the time. He left Jakes in 1994 to become the general manager of The Club Forest restaurant in Mequon.
Schuller noted that Wolfendales had made Dennis Gettos book 101 great Wisconsin restaurants."
Arthur ks will still be a great place to go for a special occasion, but it will also be a great place to go anytime."
Arthur ks serves lunch Monday thru Friday from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, and dinner seven nights a week beginning at 5:00 pm, 4:30 on Sundays.
