CompassCare Launches First In New York State"
Comprehensive Medical And Social Services
(ROCHESTER, NEW YORK) CompassCare Pregnancy Services announced today it has implemented a comprehensive medical and social service model ... the first of its kind in New York State. Formerly known as Crisis Pregnancy Services, CompassCare has partnered with Grace Family Medicine and the Social Services program at Roberts Wesleyan College.
This new model is all about freedom and choice for women facing an unplanned pregnancy," said CompassCare President Jim Harden. Often, women feel trapped; they dont have the resources to get the information they need to make the right decisions," he continued. Through our network, CompassCare will provide counseling, medical care and social services to help our clients choose what is right for them."
Specific tools that CompassCare is utilizing include an alliance with Grace Family Medicine. Once a womans pregnancy has been confirmed through a self-administered test, shell be given the option to validate that test through an informational ultrasound," explained Clara Chang, MD. The ultrasound confirms that the baby is alive. Letting the woman see the beating heart, and arms and legs moving, gives her the information she needs to make a choice that is right for her," Chang said. Grace Family Medicines patient exam suites are located in the same building as CompassCares newest satellite office at 340 Arnett Boulevard in Rochester.
Additionally, Roberts Wesleyan College is providing social work services staff to facilitate counseling women, and their male partners, through what could be a difficult decision. Professor Leonard Erb said The college is excited about this partnership because it will put our graduate and undergraduate students in a real world, real life decision-helping experience." RWC will also direct women to resources that can meet their physical needs such as housing, clothing and food. Roberts Wesleyan and CompassCare share a faith perspective that has a commitment to life and to life issues. This is a great fit for us and for our students," added Erb.
Harden believes this new model will allow CompassCare to expand its reach to the entire Western New York region. Additional satellite offices are planned in the coming year. Women going through an unexpected pregnancy have a need for more than just someone to listen to them. Through this alliance with Roberts Wesleyan College and Grace Family Medicine, CompassCare will be able to guide over 1000 women each year through the whole process with medical support and resources that arent available anywhere else in New York State," noted Harden. I believe this new direction for CompassCare will eliminate the need for abortion in Rochester and Western New York."
