PRESS RELEASE
THREE DOG NIGHT: LIVE WITH THE TENESSEE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
ROCK ON PUBLIC TELEVISION STATIONS BEGINNING AUGUST 2002
In the years 1969 through 1974, no other band had more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night. Now entering their fourth decade, they continue to sell records around the world, and as evidenced in THREE DOG NIGHT: LIVE WITH THE TENNESSEE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, still sell out concert halls. Recorded live at The Renaissance Center in Dickson, Tennessee, this concert captures the distinctive, signature sound of one of the most popular bands in music history. Singers Danny Hutton and Cory Wells and their band are still strong; and the new orchestral arrangements add considerable color and interesting new dimension to their string of hits. The program contains many of Three Dog Nights songs that helped define the 1960s and 1970s, from Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" and Black and White to One," Eli's Coming," Easy to Be Hard" and Joy to the World." Creative direction and interviews with the band help turn this into a pleasant walk down memory lane. THREE DOG NIGHT: LIVE WITH THE TENESSEE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA will be airing on public television stations nationwide beginning August 1, 2002 (contact APT or check local listings for times).
Danny Hutton and Cory Wells started the group in 1968 and got the name from a story about Australian aborigines who, on cold nights in the outback, sleep with their dogs for warmth. The coldest evenings are known as three dog nights."
Three Dog Night recorded the music of then-undiscovered songwriters including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group had eclectic taste and a unique, distinctive and appealing style which led to almost instant success and their domination of the best-seller charts for years.
Three Dog Nights statistics have rarely been matched in popular music. They had 21 consecutive top-40 hits, 18 straight top-20s, 11 top-10s, three number-ones, seven million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. They covered the best-seller charts in almost all genres: pop, rock, R&B and country.
THREE DOG NIGHT: LIVE WITH THE TENNESSEE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA finds the band in top form, embellished, without being overpowered, by the orchestras accompaniment. Interviews with the band members interspersed with concert scenes add anecdotal flavor and a bit of history. Combining excellent production and sound quality, this concert film smoothly weaves the past and the present into a beautiful presentation of this legendary pop band.
Produced in 2002 THREE DOG NIGHT: LIVE WITH THE TENNESSEE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is distributed by American Public Televisions Premium Service to public television stations nationwide beginning August 1, 2002.
