DATING SURVEY: BIRACIAL ASIANS BREAK FROM FAMILY TRADITION

Their Parents May Have Crossed Color Lines for Love, But Biracial Asians Would Rather Date Their Own Kind.

New York, NY-August 5, 2002. More than two-thirds of biracial Asians wish they could meet and date more biracial Asians like themselves, according to a new survey conducted by EurasianNation.com, an online magazine and community for people of mixed European and Asian descent.

--45% of those surveyed said that given the choice, they would rather date a Eurasian than an individual of any other ethnic background.

--68% said they wished they could meet more Eurasians for romantic purposes. That number soared to 81% among respondents not in a committed relationship at the time of the survey.

The results are provocative," said Carmen Van Kerckhove, co-founder of EurasianNation.com. Many of the respondents said that they feel a natural affinity with Eurasians that they just cant find with individuals of any other ethnicity. Because their cultural background is so unique, they can connect more easily with people who have shared this experience."

The mixed-race population is one of the fastest-growing groups in the United States. In 2000, the Public Policy Institute of California found that multiracial and multiethnic births represented nearly 15 percent of all births in the state. In the 2000 census, almost 7 million Americans identified themselves as multiracial.

Eurasians-people of mixed European and Asian descent-make up a large proportion of the mixed-race community. Of the 1.7 million people who identified themselves as mixed-race Asian-Americans in the 2000 census, more than half were Eurasian.
