Think Tank 23 Says 'No' to Taxonomies
Nav4 Seen as Alternative to Costly Taxonomy Maintenance
Seattle, Washington -- August 7, 2002 -- Think Tank 23 today announced the launch of its Nav4 line of products, designed as a low-maintenance, high-ROI alternative to taxonomic systems in the role of automating and delivering in-context navigation.
The new product line, which includes a low-cost Search Engine Patch Kit (SEPK) and a full-featured Software Development Kit (SDK), takes the work out of automating Context Navigation, generating dynamic lists of related documents in the context of Web pages, search results, content-management applications, and knowledge management systems.
With Nav4, Think Tank 23 is challenging conventional notions that time-consuming taxonomy work or in-depth training are required for high-precision information retrieval. Says Steven Nieker founding partner of Think Tank 23, "we asked ourselves, why do all that work? Maintaining taxonomies in a growing system of generalized information is a money pit. Constant retraining is just as bad. There has to be a better way."
By applying a complex, patent-pending natural-language processing system, Think Tank 23 believes it has found the formula for taking the work out of Context Navigation.
The company sees Nav4 as both evolutionary and revolutionary. "Automatically generated, in-context navigation is the evolutionary successor to keyword search," Nieker explains. "But the technological approach we've taken represents a revolution in labor savings, time to deployment, and ROI."
