Based in Sydney, Australia since 1995, we at Menmax Pty Ltd have been in the business of designing, wholesaling , importing and manufacturing clothing made from Hemp under the brand "Braintree."
Supported by more than twenty years experience in the clothing industry, the Braintree range is currently sold through hundreds of clothing retailers around Australia; large and small, as well as two of our own stores in Sydney. The range produced is primarily menswear although we have recently developed a ladieswear range. All goods are manufactured in China. Over the last five years we have seen a significant increase in the appreciation of hemp clothing and marked growth in turnover. Public awareness of hemp and its qualities has grown dramatically due to the worldwide marketing effort that has taken place in recent times. We are determined to continue marketing Hemp clothing as a superior fashion alternative focusing on environmental advantages, quality and comfort; the main benefits associated with the range.
The BRAINTREE Hemp clothing range includes essential casual basics as well as classic cuts and linen look finishes. All garments are conventional or commercial styles. We have worked hard to improve the image of Hemp clothing: to remove it from the stereotype of scratchy, poorly constructed and baggy clothing into a versatile, comfortable and fashionable range of garments. Close ties with Hemp sources in China have enabled us to develop a huge variety of fabrics and finishes that are at the forefront of hemp fabric and clothing manufacture.
Fabrics include; jersey knits (t-shirt and sweat weight), French rib, drill (twill), canvas, various shirting weights and constructions to name a few. Hemps bast fiber is among the longest and strongest of plant fibers, long prized for its versatility in making everything from clothing to canvas and cordage. The market for hemp apparel, footwear, luggage and other accessories is based on hemps reputation as a durable fiber for longer, more comfortable wear and colorfastness. Since the mid-1990s, numerous apparel manufacturers have begun using hemp fibers in their designs. Adidas created a hemp fabric shoe. Armani designed a tuxedo made from hemp. Calvin Klein has used hemp for years and has listed it as vegetable fiber." Two Star Dog, a grass roots hemp company, produces apparel that is featured in Nordstrom. Hemp is as versatile as any other fiber and blends well with cotton, silk, rayon, linen and wool.
