FREE YOGA MAGAZINE HITS THE NORTHWEST
Yoga Instructor Mara McLoughlin Launches Yoga Northwest Magazine

PORTLAND, OREGON-August 7, 2002-When asked what they want their students to gain from the practice of yoga, most instructors respond they want to enhance the students awareness of the breath, and to help them connect more deeply with themselves. The more people help themselves, the more they can help others.

This is the basic principle of Yoga Northwest Magazine -- it seeks to educate and strengthen the community by encouraging the citizenry to care for themselves. With articles about yoga for kids, seniors, alternative medicine, and book reviews, the magazine seeks to inform, unite, and empower the thriving holistic community of the Northwest, and also to initiate newcomers to healthier lifestyles.

"I was feeling really isolated," said founder, editor, and yoga instructor Mara McLoughlin, "which I found ironic -- because yoga itself means 'unity. I just decided to create a forum for communication so that teachers, students, and the community at large could learn more about yoga and feel more connected."

One of only three magazines of its kind in the country (along with YOGAChicago and the L.A. Yoga Pages), the magazine reaches a regional demographic that is seemingly limitless. Although the magazine focuses on the Pacific Northwest, it is gaining national exposure. With interest from national companies and studios on the East Coast, and its distribution at the 2002 Southwest Yoga Conference, Yoga Northwest Magazine is gaining momentum.

The eye-catching, glossy cover, circulation of 20,000 throughout the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Seattle, Olympia, Vancouver and Eugene), and unbeatable price (its FREE), make Yoga Northwest Magazine almost impossible to resist. It gets picked up by those who frequent the distribution sites -- yoga and meditation centers, health food stores, fitness centers, libraries, bookstores, cafes, and community centers. It is clear from the way the magazine flies off the racks that it is a publication whose time has come.
