What Have You Done for Me Lately?

A new book just published called The Idea Generator - Quick and Easy Kaizen Workbook helps to empower all employees to make their work easier and more interesting, and to satisfy their customers. The workbook is both an instructional guide and a place to record your implemented improvement ideas.

At the end of each year I would be called into my bosss office for my annual review. I would sit quietly, wait for him to review my files and hear him state Well what have you done for us lately? Why do you think you deserve a raise?" Unfortunately, my mind would freeze and only a few things would come out. I would leave the office kicking myself for not telling him about all the great things I had done for his company.

A New Powerful Tool

Today, if it happened I would simply pull out my Idea Generator -- Quick and Easy Kaizen workbook and show all of my accomplishments during the last year. For here in my personal improvement book is all of the wonderful things that I have implemented last year on the job:

1. I built a new work stand to help me sand off the ruff edges on the plastic boards.
2. I made a new container to house and prevent chemicals on my desk from spilling.
3. I carefully labeled all my storage shelves to help me find my tools quickly.
4. I changed my work processes to reduce my assembly time.
5. I studied and learned how to handle high voltage lines.
6. I was part of a quality problem solving team that found ways to reduce the defect rate by 20%.
Etc. etc. etc.

Quick and Easy Kaizen is a system developed at Toyota and other Japanese companies to empower workers to make their jobs easier and more interesting and to improve productivity and quality. Toyota at one time was receiving over 70 improvement ideas per worker per year and today Dana Corporation with over 55,000 employees is receiving on the average 24 improvement ideas per worker per year.

Just amazing, now it is a win-win situation for all.

You can learn all about this marvelous improvement system from two books, The Idea Generator -- Quick and Easy Kaizen ($47.50 plus $4.98 shipping)-- a managements guide and The Idea Generator --Quick and Easy Kaizen Workbook ($27.50 plus $4.98 shipping) for employees to learn and keep a record of all of their implemented ideas.
