Rumble Under the Sun Coming to Mohegan Sun
World Extreme Cagefighting,
East Coast vs. West Coast Battle
Set for Saturday August 31st
Fight fans from across the East Coast are expected to converge upon the Mohegan Sun Arena Labor Day weekend to witness the much-anticipated Rumble Under the Sun World Extreme Cagefighting matchup. The event is set for Saturday, August 31st at 8:00 p.m. Tickets will be going on sale soon.
In a unique twist, show promoters have set up an "East Coast versus West Coast" grudge match, pitting the most ferocious cage fighters from both sides of the country against one another. Only one winner will emerge victorious.
"For years I have heard talk from both coasts that their training and fighting styles are superior," said fight promoter Scott Adams who himself is undefeated in the cage. "So we began discussing the concept with top schools on each coast, and what we heard was - it's about time."
Fighters have been signed from top schools such as Tito Ortiz's Team Punishment, The Frank Shamrock/Bob Cook AKA Academy, the East Coast's Renzo Gracie Academy, and Raw Team.
Rumble Under the Sun is being co-promoted by a member of the Mohegan Tribe, Brian Bozsum. Tribal culture will pervade the show with spectacles such as a Native American Shield Dance (Warrior's Dance), Native American drumming, and even a Native American fighter: Cole "The Apache Kid" Escovedo.
Adams notes that other crowd-pleasers on tap for the show will be spectacular pyrotechnic fireworks displays, music, and the very popular and beautiful World Extreme Cagefighting Ring Girls. Celebrities of mixed martial arts will also be on hand to take photos and sign autographs for fans. Of course, the main event will be the 10 explosive fights.
"We are known for edgy, exciting fights with lots of toe-to-toe action - nothing watered down. And this is shaping up to be our biggest matchup yet, " says Adams. "I've been involved in the sport since its inception, whether through my own fights or through my partner Chuck Liddell, and I know that these competitors fight for more that just a purse. They fight for recognition from their community and pride for their school."
The Mohegan Sun, owned by the Mohegan Tribe, is one of the largest, most spectacular entertainment, gaming, shopping and meeting destinations in the United States. Situated on 240 acres along the Thames River in scenic Southeastern Connecticut, the Mohegan Sun is within easy access of New York, Boston, Hartford and Providence. With its state-of-the-art lighting and sound system, and 10,000 seat capacity, the Mohegan Sun arena is the premier entertainment venue on the East Coast.
World Extreme Cagefighting has evolved from the ancient sport of Pankration, which was first introduced in the Greek Olympic games of 648 BC. Pankration means "all powerful" or "all powers." Today, it has evolved into a type of "no holds barred" fighting which combines aspects from the disciplines of boxing, wrestling and martial arts.
