Flight 93-Renowned songwriters pay tribute to Heroes of Flight 93

Joan Javits, the senator's niece, collaborated with Phil Springer and wrote "Santa Baby" some 50 years ago. Now they have gotten together again - this time to write from the heart, a song dedicated to the heroes of United Airlines Flight 93. The lyrics and music of this ballad of "Flight 93" are powerful, moving and memorable.

FLIGHT 93
Dedicated to the heroes of United Airlines Flight 93
Lyrics and music by Philip Springer and Joan Javits

You probably know the song "Santa Baby." It's played every year at Christmas and was recorded by Eartha Kitt as well as Madonna. You're probably getting ready to hum it now. You probably know of the late New York Senator Jacob Javits. Like everyone, the world over, we know of the unfortunate events of September 11th.

Some history about the song--shortly after September 11, Mr. Springer called Ms. Javits and said he just composed a melody about the tragedy. Javits listened and cried and within 20 minutes created the poignant lyrics. Once you hear this song, you can never get it out of your head. It is destined to be the anthem for this solemn occasion.

Javits and Springer want to donate their song and the proceeds to the memorial fund for the families of Flight 93. At this writing, no known male or female vocalist has recorded it.

Both Javits and Springer split their time between New York and Vermont with their respective spouses and families.

Lyrics
Flight 93

Dedicated to the heroes of United Airlines Flight 93
Lyrics and music by Philip Springer and Joan Javits

(in a gentle folk rhythm)

On United Airlines Flight Ninety-Three.
A brave group of passengers died for you and me.
They didn't want to be heroes.
They didn't know how to fly.
But they weren't about to.
Let freedom die.

The hijackers set out that September day.
To rain destruction upon the USA.
But their evil purpose never did come to be.
Thanks to those passengers on Flight Ninety-Three.

And their spirits hover over Pennsylvania.
Like a gossamer reminder of the time.
When our founding fathers cast their votes for freedom.
And the spirit of America forever was enshrined.

Verse 3

They called on their cell-phones.
To husband and wives.
Said please don't forget me.
But go on with your lives.
We've reached the end of the rainbow.
We're all afraid but we agree.
Since we have to die now.
We want to die free.

Verse 4

Then there was a struggle.
And we heard from below.
Angry shouts and then silence.
That's all we know.
But our beautiful White House.
Still lights up D.C.
Thanks to those passengers.
On Flight Ninety -Three.

Verse 5

So let's say a prayer for.
The Pilot and crew.
And each one of those heros.
Up there in the blue.
Who set a shining example.
For the whole world to see.
When they went down fighting.
On Flight Ninety -Three.
