Introducing the Resumé of the Future
Atlanta, Georgia - August 19, 2002 - Innovale, a new entrant into the multimedia design industry, has developed a twist on the old fashioned paper resumé: the Visumé, a multimedia computer presentation delivered on business card size CDs and over the web. While paper resumés only list experiences, a Visumé uses animated graphics and sound to market the applicant's qualifications.
Innovale was founded in January 2002 by Dave Berzack and Blair Sherwood, two recent graduates with marketing and computer science backgrounds. A year before, Berzack had designed his own multimedia resumé, which resulted in a number of job offers after almost a year of unsuccessful job hunting. One company that had previously refused to interview Berzack petitioned headquarters to open a position specifically for him. Spurred by this success he contacted Sherwood, a friend from high school, about forming a partnership. Together, they started Innovale to design multimedia resumés for jobseekers. As the US economic recession continues and the job market becomes more competitive, job hunters are more willing to try unique approaches to find employment.
Innovale views the job search as a personal marketing campaign and has developed the Visumé approach based on modern advertising theory. Research shows that people are more likely to remember information presented in a colorful, dynamic way. Like a corporate ad campaign, a Visumé uses rich audiovisual content to engage HR managers. It presents the information from a job hunter's resumé, organized in a simple, website-like structure. The presentation can be viewed online, sent via email, or given to employers on miniature CDs.
These CDs use the same concept as AOL's direct mail campaign: people are less likely to disregard a CD than a piece of paper. But since regular CDs have become commonplace, innovale offers more exclusive business card CDs with custom full-color printing. When employers insert the disc into their computer's CD drive, the presentation starts playing automatically. It includes background music, animated effects, and different images to highlight each section of the resumé. Future versions will also allow users to upload photos and record their voice for a virtual interview.
