WORKING VIRTUALLY WORKS FOR SMALL BUSINESS
Local Woman Launches Virtual Assistant Practice

The reasons are as different as the people who decide to become small business owners. Some cite the downsizing or disappearance of corporate America, the desire to spend more time with the kids, or the need to be in control of their own destiny. Whatever the reason, the Internet is an integral component in the lives of many small business owners. According to a recent Small Business Administration report, 85% of small firms are expected to be conducting business over the Internet by the end of this year.

Virtual Assistance is one of those businesses. Virtual Assistance is a new take on the traditional profession of Administrative Assistance. Stacy Brice, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Assist University, a virtual training, coaching and referral organization for Virtual Assistants (VAs), predicts that in a few short years people will go from asking what is a VA to who is your VA."

There has been a shift in the way America thinks and operates. Recent events have caused Americans to reorganize their priorities and to exercise more control over their finances. This shift is reflected in the emergence of new small business startups.

Small business owners, however, soon realize to successfully operate a business, they cannot do everything. They also realize that the cost of hiring an employee can be prohibitive. For those working out of their homes providing space and equipment is yet another concern.

Virtual Assistants, small business owners themselves, partner with other small business owners to provide administrative as well as personal support from a distance. The new twist on an established profession is that the VA and client, respectively, can be across town or across the world. With communication taking place via email, phone, fax, and a host of other collaboration tools, this arrangement is already working well for many small business owners and VAs.
