BALATON POWER COMPLETES INITIAL PISCES FIELD TRIALS
Test results verify that new intake protected 99% of the fish
Boise, Idaho, August 20, 2002 - Balaton Power Inc. (OTC BB - BPWRF), is pleased to announce that results from initial field testing on the PISCES intake verify that the vast majority of young salmon in the study area were protected from being entrained into an irrigation pipe retrofitted with Balaton's patent-pending, fish protection technology - the PISCES.
An extensive series of tests were conducted on a prototype PISCES unit in the outflow canal of the Yakama Nation's salmon hatchery in Prosser, Washington. Data collected by Balaton's fisheries consultant, ENTRIX., Inc. , with concurrent "flow character" studies done by Washington Sate University. showed a very strong, statistically significant reduction in entrainment rates when the PISCES was in use. On average, 99% of juvenile salmon that might have otherwise been at risk were protected from getting withdrawn out of the channel. Photos from Prosser field site can be viewed on Balaton's web site, with test results to be posted in near in the near future.
According to Dan Pfeiffer, Balaton's Vice President of Business Development and fish biologist, "We are very pleased with the performance of our PISCES intake in its initial field trials and appreciate the Yakama Nation's support in letting us use their facilities. The favorable results, while not unexpected, are a critical step forward in our development and marketing plans for the PISCES."
