YBP Library Services subsidiary Lindsay & Howes has expanded its offerings to include English-language titles from African publishers. The 60 different publishers represent 11 countries and are distributed by African Books Collective.

Announce Coverage of African Publishers

Companies deliver English-language titles through African Books Collective

CONTOOCOOK, NH and GODALMING, ENGLAND -- July 29 2002 --- YBP Library Services subsidiary Lindsay & Howes has expanded its offerings to include English-language titles from African publishers. The 60 different publishers represent 11 countries and are distributed by African Books Collective. African Books Collective is not for profit, and is supported by government agencies and development organizations to market and distribute African published books globally.

We expect libraries collecting in black studies, African studies, or the African diaspora to be interested in these titles," commented David Swords, vice president of YBPs International Division. Lindsay & Howes will bring in the African titles of probable interest to approval plan customers and will offer these titles on approval at Lindsay & Howes usual terms to the library. The number of titles comes to about 150 annually at a cost of roughly $2,600 USD."

Titles span 56 subjects, with an emphasis on scholarly and academic books, literature, and general culture. Also available are childrens titles written in Swahili and French.

Miriam Lindsay, director and founding partner of Lindsay & Howes, commented, We think that libraries who do not use Lindsay & Howes for their UK books might now want to establish a plan wish us to receive the material from the African presses."

Each publisher covered will be listed as a separate imprint ID by Lindsay & Howes," she continued, so that libraries can easily exclude individual publishers if they wish." The titles will also appear in YBPs online database, GOBI, where they be obtained through firm orders.
