Heroic Deed Inspires Picture Book and Life of Aiding Others
Polt Mountain Press announces the December 2002 publication of its latest release, The Collie of Castle Hill, written and illustrated by Christine Reilly Carter. Based on true events, the story begins in 1954 and follows Carl and Lucky through their first year of adventures together climaxing when Lucky saves Carl from drowning in the Neshanic River in New Jersey. The incident at the river marks a turning point in Carls life and inspires him to devote his time and services to bringing pets and people together.
Carter presents Carl and Luckys story with captivating text and compelling pencil illustrations. Following the story is a photograph of Lucky and photographs of Carls last eight dogs - all therapy dogs. Recently Carls dog, Rusty, was named New Jerseys Red Cross Mascot for his therapy work with families who lost loved ones in the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. On July 22, 2002 Carl and Rusty presented a flag created by local school children to the Red Cross Headquarters in Washington D. C. Carl also presented a copy of The Collie of Castle Hill to First Lady Laura W. Bush.
