NORTHERN BUSINESS JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR ENTRY FORMS DESPATCHED

The 2002 Yorkshire Bank Northern Business Journalist of the Year Awards begin in earnest this week with the despatch of entry forms to prospective competitors.

This years scheme is bigger and better than ever, with a category for new media outlets sitting alongside six others, including three introduced last year. The full range of sections now reads:

·   Newspaper of the Year

·   Magazine of the Year

·   New Media Outlet of the Year

·   Daily Newspaper Journalist of the Year

·   Weekly Newspaper Journalist of the Year

·   Magazine Journalist of the Year

·   Broadcast Journalist of the Year

The winner of each category will receive 1,000.

All journalists and media - covering business - based between the Trent and Scottish border are eligible to enter the awards. Reporters and outlets from the international, national, regional and local media are all able to take part and entries can be made in more than one category. Submissions must have been published or broadcast between the beginning of June 2001 and the same date this year.

Entries must be received by Friday, September 27 and the winners will be announced at a presentation dinner at the Marriott Hotel, central Leeds, on Wednesday, November 20.

Geoff Greer, chief operating officer at Yorkshire Bank, said: The Northern Business Journalist of the Year Awards are now highly-prized accolades among media people in the north of England, and competition to win them becomes more intense every year.

We recognise and reward the excellent standards of business journalism which exist in the region and hope the awards will encourage editors to devote even more time and space to business issues. As much top-quality coverage is now generated via media such as the internet and CD ROM, we had no hesitation in instituting a new media category this year."

Entry forms can be obtained from:
