ONE YEAR LATER, IS AMERICA SAFER FROM TERRORISM?

As we approach the one year anniversary of the horrible 9-11 terrorist attacks, America seems to have fallen asleep once again. "It's politics as usual in Washington, airport security is farcical, and there appears to be a lack of even basic security in protecting the homeland, says Jim Kouri, Vice President of the 14,000-member National Association of Chiefs of Police.

Kouri, an Arab-American, continues to warn that security forces provided by contract security companies are totally inadequate to protect thousands of potential targets to which they're assigned. "These officers are untrained, underpaid and inexperienced. We're heading for disaster," he says.

Jim Kouri predicted the 9-11 attacks in his magazine articles on terrorism. In fact, right after a September 9 incident in Israel, Kouri told a colleague, "We're next!" That was two days before the shocking terrorist attacks.

Kouri, an award-winning writer and contributing editor for Chief of Police
Magazine and Police Times, has written a series of articles for police officers on the subject of terrorism. The series included 'target hardening,' incident investigation, anti-terrorism and counterterrorism, and other subjects.

Jim Kouri served as chief at a housing project in the Washington Heights
section of New York City dubbed "Crack City" by reporters covering the drug
war in the 1980s and later as chief of campus police at a leading university, prior to becoming a noted security executive and consultant. He's the author of two books: Crime Talk: Conversations with America's Top Crimefighters, a NY Cop Magazine Book of the Month, and Assume the Position: Police Science for Novelists, Screenwriters and Journalists. He's a veteran on-air commentator and has appeared on Oprah, The O'Reilly Factor, The McLaughlin Report, CNN Headline News, CBS News, and many others. An award-winning writer and decorated law-enforcement official, Kouri also served on the National Drug Task Force in Washington, DC and is a candid and outspoken professional.
