WHY? Events intended to salute" fallen soldiers of World War I, WWII, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Sept. 11, 2001.
The current 77th RSC was born as the 77th Infantry Division, Aug. 25, 1917 at Camp Upton, Yaphank, N.Y. It was called the "Metropolitan Division" because its soldiers came almost entirely from New York City. Since then, the command has changed names, missions and places several times, but the valiant heart of the command -- the citizen-soldiers from the neighborhoods of New York -- remains the same. The celebration will also highlight the 77th's current role in support of Army operations around the world as part of Americas war on terrorism.
