BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF LAGUNA BEACH RECEIVES GRANT FROM AMATUER ATHLETIC FOUNDATION
Foundation Grants Club $87,020 For The Renovation
Of 37-Year Old Gymnasium
Laguna Beach, CA -- August 22, 2002 -- The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach has announced that it was awarded an $87,020.00 grant from the Amateur Athletic Foundation for the renovation of its 37-year old gymnasium. The Club is in the home stretch of a $3 million capital campaign and this grant will provide funds to renovate an area of the Club that is central to much activity for the communitys children and teens. The renovation will include a new Taraflex gymnasium floor, new basketball height adjusters, wall mounts, and backboards, protective wall mats, an electronic scoreboard and game clock, and volleyball nets. In addition, the new gym will be outfitted with new portable bleachers, floor hockey equipment, and new heaters.
The Amateur Athletic Foundation is a private, non-profit institution created by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee to manage Southern Californias endowment from the 1984 Olympic Games. Since inception, the Foundation has invested more than $110 million in youth sports programming by awarding grants to youth sports organizations, initiating sports and coaching education programs, and operating the Paul Ziffren Sports Resource Center. Grants are awarded to organizations that provide ongoing, structured youth sports programs combining the essential elements of teaching, learning, and competition. Joe Derichsweiler, Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach Director of Operations, said The activities housed in our gymnasium here at the Club and play an integral role in the development of our members and it is an honor to be recognized by the AAF for our role in this process."
