ONLY 24 AND ALREADY RIVALRING M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN
24 years old Don Lane is going to reinvent independent filmmaking with his shortly due trilogy "The Incapables." Already an acclaimed Director, his talents and ambition are bringing him closer to fame.
Wide, moving, crafty shoots. Carefully chosen angles. Crisp, insightful details. A long-lasting impression.
He set out to prove that the digital look could be utilized in order to convey a certain feel. "Film is not the only way to go. It certainly isn't the best way. The range of sentiments the human mind can experience is too wide to limit the mediums used to portray each one of them." Mr. Lane said recently.
"The Incapables" is a project that began with a simple subway sign. Initially, Mr. Lane developed a full-length feature script and was in pre-production when he met a mentor who changed his views entirely. "Everyone has their own emotional struggles and, at the time, I was dealing with mine. I didn?t realize I had imposed my own views on the characters, thus making them cynical, conveniently predictable and less diverse." says Lane and adds "Realizing this, I was able to let the characters came alive, and I let them follow their natural development. As a result, each scene in my script convinces of my sentiment as a writer, without the characters necessarily agreeing to it. I further realized that breaking up the script into a trilogy pushed its structure, and added an element of anticipation. Further on, my reconciliation with many things, that had been causing a conflict, brought the script to a level, where it was finally able to homogenize theologies, parables and reality. Thus, the conclusion of ?The Incapables.?"
Episode 1 tells a well-written story of a person who looks for answers about who he is and why he is and in the course of that, discovers that what sets him apart from the rest is his individuality. The other two Episodes continue the hero's journey as he finds a way to live up to who he is. The film carefully poses controversial questions and derives its inspiration from a delicate mixture of art and intellectuality. It is a pleasant and rewarding experience with an epic feeling. Lane's directing abilities do wonders with colors, movement and his Canon XL1s, which was used recently to shoot ?Full Frontal.? (From Steven Soderbergh, the Academy Award®-winning director of "Traffic," and other box office hits including "Erin Brockovich" and "Oceans Eleven.")
Lane's maturity as a filmmaker of a new generation is reflected in his credits and views of his craft. His previous projects include numerous commercials, music videos, and shorts. All of them testify for the deep ingenuity of Lane?s directing style.
