Apple Hill Farmers are harvesting the sweet fruits of late summer: mountain grown pears, apples, peaches and nectarines

The busy harvest season is underway at Apple Hill, located 4 miles east of Placerville, CA on Highway 50. Stone fruits just for eating or baking, and baked goods made from these hand-picked, tree-ripened gems are offered as September deliciously unfolds.

As September unfolds, Apple Hill Farmers harvest the sweet fruits of late summer. In addition to mountain grown pears and apples, peaches and nectarines are cultivated at the 3,000-foot level and are harvested at the peak of their ripeness. These hand-picked, tree ripened peaches and nectarines are celebrated for both their flavor and juiciness. Varieties of peaches available at Apple Hill ranches include OHenry, Suncrest, Cresthaven, Red Gold, Firebright, Sparkling Red, Summer Grand, White Lady, Zee Lady, and Cal Red.

While these stone fruits are a natural treat for just plain eating, they are also the perfect ingredient for peach desserts and for home canning. In addition, several Apple Hill bakeshops offer peach desserts including peach pie, peach cobbler, and homemade peach ice cream while peaches are plentiful during the month of September.
