EASY TO USE
Question: "....I want to find my old friend 'Sally Hardcastle', I know that she once lived in Birmingham in the UK".
Answer: Visit TownsTogether.com and click on the UK flag, browse to the town, in this case 'Birmingham'. You are then presented with a list of all members that have registered under Birmingham, hopefully Sally will be there ...or soon will be!
The appeal of TownsTogether.com is quite apparent: -
Ask someone if they'd like to meet all their old friends, loves or family and they might say no, but ask them if they would like to know what they're doing today and they will almost certainly say ............YES!!
The brilliance of the site lies in the fact that you can see what other people are doing today without revealing anything at all about yourself ....that's if you don't want to!!
Visitors can only email their old friends via TownsTogether.com's internal mailing system, whether or the member that they are trying to contact replies is entirely up to them. In addition no one can find out your email address unless you choose to give it to them.
TownsTogether's Rick Wilson says: "We have observed, researched and admired many websites that have been succesful in reuniting people. We congratulate them on their success but be assured that we have not set out to duplicate a service that is already available on the Internet, TownsTogether.com is a totally unique concept".
"The majority of the present offerings on the Internet are related to schools or organisations that people have once belonged to. Our website is unique by the fact that you only need to know the town that they once lived in and you can perform your search immediately".
"Populating the database with each and every location in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand was an arduous task and we are extremely proud that we have managed to launch such a comprehensive website. However the real hard work has only just started, we need Internet users to visit TownsTogether.com and register their details so that they can make that all important first step to renewing old friendships".
"Registration is free and can be completed in under two minutes. Users can register for any number of towns that they have resided in so they are not governed by one particular location. If they have lived in 15 towns since they were born then they are welcome to register in all 15 towns on TownsTogether.com ".
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
TownsTogether.com is a subsidiary of Rick Wilson's company, 1on1Names (http://www.1on1names.co.uk). 1on1Names are a successful domain name registration and website hosting provider based in the UK.
The concept of TownsTogether.com originated from Rick Wilson's old school website (http://www.farnworthgrammar.co.uk) which was implemented by 1on1Names in June 2001. The website has attracted members from across the globe and there are currently over 12,000 messages posted on the website's internal messageboard system.
Rick witnessed at first hand the joy that people experienced by being reunited again after a considerable amount of time, in some cases over 50 years! Research was carried out and a number of avenues were explored to implement a website that would be functional, simple to use and totally unique in reuniting people.
As a result of this research it was concluded that there were no websites available on the Internet that allowed people to re-establish contact, unless they were related to an organisation, school or similar.
A list was drawn up from a cross section of Rick's old friends from when he was aged between 5 and 21. Unfortunately (possibly due to the ravages of time!) he had absolutely no idea which school the majority attended or what organisations they were involved with, as such he could not perform a search for them via the present offerings on the Internet. The only information that he did have for each and every person on the list was where they once lived and the concept of TownsTogether.com was established.
