Fellow2Fellows (F2F), a proactive community of teachers focused on leadership and empowerment, is raising money for classroom supplies through a a walkathon on September 14th starting at the Harlem YMCA on 135th Street. This event is F2Fs first action designed to realistically combat the crises students and teachers face because of limited funding by the Department of Education and New York State for classroom supplies.

NEW YORK CITY- Fellow2Fellows will be taking part in the Harlem Renaissance 5-Mile Classic to raise money for public school classroom supplies. It takes place on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10:00am at the Harlem YMCA on 135th Street between Lenox Ave. and Seventh Ave.

Fellow2Fellows (F2F), is a newly formed community of teachers, focused on leadership and empowerment and on creating access for a quality education for all New York Citys public school students. The walkathon is F2Fs first action designed to realistically combat the crises students and teachers are facing because of limited funding by the Board of Ed and New York State for classroom supplies.

Although having adequate supplies in the classrooms seems to be a given, it is up to teachers to pay for the tools of their trade. Some teachers report spending over $3,500 of their own money because they care so much about their students and at $39,000 for new teachers in high-cost-of-living New York City, thats not acceptable," explained Michael Shell, the President of Fellow2Fellows and spearhead. He is among several thousand teachers in the New York City Teaching Fellows Program. The Fellows Program is a Board of Education initiative funded by the Federal Government to equip New York City with motivated individuals who can ultimately achieve complete certification through an alternate route certification program.
