Erik Estrada and Karen Black Star In One Of The Most Uniquely
Financed Films Ever Made
"OLIVER TWISTED" SET FOR DVD RELEASE
Orlando, FL, September 14, 2002: "The Family Secret Is Out". That's not only the theme of this modern day Charles Dickens' Classic, it's a response to those who said "it can't be done." It is done, so ignore the skeptics, fire up your DVD player and get ready for a real treat in what many believe will be the first 21st century horror cult "classic."
"Oliver Twisted" starring Erik Estrada and Karen Black is set for DVD release this month and it's about time. Produced by The Florida Film Investment Company in association with Andros Film Productiions, Inc., "Oliver Twisted" is the tale of a very normal family who must deal with a "family secret" named Oliver, for whom they must provide constant care due to his bed-ridden medical condition. There is something about Oliver but it has nothing to do with his being bedridden and certainly nothing to do with being a congenial, grateful relative. It seems that once they take in Oliver to care for him, people begin to diehorribly! Enough said. You have to see the film to get the whole story.
Besides the film being a "must see", "Oliver Twisted" is the one of the most uniquely financed films ever made. Created not so long ago when the government allowed such things, the film has a total of 1300 independent investors and stockholders, something that, today, would be taken with a very dim view by governmental agencies that regulate stocks and investments. Nearly every single person involved in the production of the film has a vested interest in it, even if that investment was less than $100 or in the thousands of dollars. Motion pictures are no longer created that way. Many people said it couldn't be done "the Hollywood way" but the film was produced in Florida and, as the saying goes, "the rules are different here." Thus, "Oliver Twisted" was born and it truly is very different. Hollywood, eat your heart out!
Besides the headliners Erik Estrada and Karen Black, whose careers speak for themselves, "Oliver Twisted" co- stars Jason McMahon as "Oliver." A strong stage performer, McMahan's extensive stage presence includes "The Fantastiks", "Fiddler On The Roof," "South Pacific" and many other theatrical performances and recipient of The Newcomer of the Year" award for his contributions to the drama and musical theater. Co-star Signe'Kiesel is another stage actress with a long list of credits including "Agnes of God," "Anne of a Thousand Days," "It Had To Be You" and many more. Finally, co-star Brian Ahmes is recognizable from his many national television commercials (including McDonalds) and has appeared on ABC-TV's "Good Morning America."
"Oliver Twisted" is directed by Dean Gates, an Emmy award-winner for his special effects work in the TV sci-fi hit "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Gates has previously worked with some of Hollywood's top film makers including Steven Spielberg, Stephen King, James Cameron and Dino De Laurentis, to name a few. The film was produced by the late Socrates Ballis, who had a stunning 33-year career in the business. Mr. Ballis started as an actor and stuntman in such series as "The Rat Patrol," "Mission Impossible" and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." He worked on such films as "Live and Let Die" and "The God mothers" starring Mickey Rooney and Frank Fontaine. In later years he produced "The Mystery of The Sacred Shroud" starring Richard Burton which was honored with the Film Advisory Board's Award of Excellence and won the prestigious Angel Award for Best Picture of the Year.
Executive Producer and Florida Film Investment CEO, Gersh Morningstar is an industry pioneer with more than a half century as an actor, writer, director, producer and entrepreneur. He has authored, co-authored and edited 38 published books, produced 42 documentary films for several federal agencies and the Office of The Vice President of The United States. His recent ventures include "The Florida Blue Sheet" an eight year old publication that has developed into the primary trade letter for entertainment production in the Southeast and The Florida Film Investment Company, a coalition of nearly 1000 entertainment production professionals. "Oliver Twisted" is the first completed FFI project. Three more feature films and three pilot television series have been approved for production.
