Canadas public broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), has inked a deal with Mazingo Network to deliver CBC news video to handheld devices via Mazingos exclusive Mobile Entertainment Network. Now for the first time with this pilot project, millions of PDA users in Canada, and around the world, will have mobile and wireless access to CBC video in the palm of their hands.
Subscribers to Mazingos multimedia delivery service will be served at least eight new video clips per weekday on their PDAs. New videos will also be served on weekends and holidays. Video clips will include top news stories from World, National, Regional, Business, Sports, Science and Arts & Entertainment headlines.
We are excited to now offer CBC users worldwide a wireless and visual method of accessing our news stories. The CBC is leading the way with the Mobile News Video Channel giving our subscribers the flexibility of watching the news on their mobiles in an easy and convenient fashion," said Bob Kerr, Director, New Media Partnering.
The CBC is the only news outlet in Canada with a presence throughout the country in both official languages, English and French. The CBC has a clear set of responsibilities to provide Canadians with news about their country and the world, while striking a balance between regional, national and international news. CBC programming is carried across six time zones.
When important events hit home to Canadians, like elections or international crises, more Canadians turn to CBC for their news than any other broadcaster," says Mazingo CEO Brooks Haden. Now, for the first time, Canadians have a new and compelling way of getting this news -- in the palm of their hands -- anywhere, anytime."
Mobile consumers who download the Mazingo software via their PDAs or handheld devices will have access to CBCs multimedia channel as well as more than 1,600 other channels including full-length classic movies, TV shows, sporting events, comics, and much more. Every time users synchronize their devices, content is automatically updated and ready to take offline to view on a plane, train or car. Consumers can sign up by visiting www.mazingo.net.
