DS2000R is the newest product addition to the DigitalSentinel line. DS2000R is a premium non-proprietary hardware solution for network security administration combining high performance, a stable and secure firewall with DMZ, Virtual Private Networking (VPN), anti-virus, anti-spam, content filtering, and more with a low-cost of ownership for the small to mid-size enterprise. Continuing the commitment to provide affordable network security devices for the small and midsize business (SMB), government, and educational markets, Connective Solutions announced the release of DS2000R, a 1U rack-mount version already popular DS2000 network security appliance. DS2000R continues to provide IT staff and small- to mid-size businesses with a low-cost, multi-faceted appliance that solves several critical problems facing computer networks today; but it now ships on a higher performance, rack-mount platform that includes a standard DMZ port to provide larger enterprises with the benefits of the DigitalSentinel product.

The DS2000R ships with an Intel motherboard, a 1.7 GHZ Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 256MB RAM Standard, dual 20GB hot swappable mirrored drives, and 3 LAN ports."
Continuing to offer the combination of industry standard, widely available hardware components, and open source operating system software (OpenBSD), DS2000R provides all the functionality small to mid-size networks (under 500 nodes) require at a low cost. DS2000r comes equipped with all the normal DigitalSentinel functionality including a powerful firewall with DHCP and NAT. DS2000R combines these features with Virtual Private Networking (VPN) capabilities, offering both 3DES and AES encryption algorithms. With commercial grade anti-virus protection for up to 5000 users, anti-spam filtering, and content filtering, employers to manage valuable bandwidth usage by limiting access to unauthorized Internet sites. Configuration is accomplished via a simple, secure browser-based user interface. This same browser interface is used to provide numerous statistical reports. Automatic alerting of the system administrator can also be configured into the DS2000R.

Our customers wanted reliability and stability as well as the affordability we have always offered. But many customers also expressed a desire to have drive mirroring, a faster CPU, and the convenience of a rack-mount unit. Now we can provide it for them. Also, many customers wanted to put a more powerful unit in the central office of the company, and use the smaller DS2000 units for branch offices." says Hal Larsen, Chief Information Officer for Connective Solutions.

Although the DS2000R release continues our commitment to the marketplace, our work is not done. Future versions will include features such as traffic shaping and bandwidth management as well as upgraded anti-spam capabilities," says Larsen. Connective Solutions will continue to direct primary sales efforts through value-added reseller channels; mainly through consultants that provide much of the IT support to the small and mid-size enterprises. However, direct sales will continue to be allowed for those enterprises that have internal IT staff.
