biolitec AG has purchased all assets of Quantanova Ltd., a leading company in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and the manufacturer of Foscan.

JENA, GERMANY; 19 SEPTEMBER 2002: biolitec AG (Frankfurt Exchange: BIB) has purchased all assets of Quantanova Ltd., a leading company in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT).

With the purchase, biolitec now manufactures the therapeutic drug Foscan®, used to treat cancer in the head and neck area. Foscan has been approved by the European Drug Regulation and the European Commission and is produced in biolitecs new facility in Scotland. Activated by the red light emitted from biolitecs 652 nm PDT laser, Foscan is a compound that selectively targets tumor cells and provides gentle treatment for head and neck cancer. To date, over 1200 patients have undergone this treatment.

The purchase of all assets of Quantanova, Ltd. will enable biolitec AG to attain a market leadership position in PDT several years earlier than previously anticipated through the development of their own photosensitizers -- the drugs used in PDT. As a result, biolitec is currently the only company listed on the Frankfurt Exchanges Neuer Markt with an EDR-approved pharmaceutical.
