KARATE KIDZ ONLINE FINAL CHOICES FOR THE TEACHER AND STUDENT SPOTLIGHT FOR SEPTEMBER 2002

September 19, 2002, New York, California , Karate Kidz Online made their Final choices for both the KKO Teacher Spotlight and the KKO Student Spotlight for September 2002.
This month we have two teachers being spotlighted for the month of September 2002, They both had so many accomplishments that we felt it appropriate to feature them both.
Sa Bum Nim Dan King was born in Bangkok, Thailand where his first martial arts experiences were in Muay Thai, the national sport of Thailand. Upon moving to the United States with his family in 1977, Master King studied several different martial arts styles including Shotokan and Kempo Karate. Master King later concentrated on Tae Kwon Do, the ancient Korean martial art. Master King studied under Master Jun Lee in Raleigh, NC, receiving his Black Belt in 1985. Attending North Carolina State University simultaneously, Master King earned his bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering. While at NC State, Master King was president of the NCSU Tae Kwon Do Club and captain of the Tae Kwon Do team.
Master King's competitive accomplishments include 1989 East Coast Regional Gold Medallist, 1988 and 1992 NC State Games Gold Medallist and 1994 National Championship Bronze Medallist. Now concentrating on teaching, Master King has produced several state and national champions in only the first 3 years of his schools' existence.

Sifu Clarence C. Burris, III, a 6th degree Blackbelt, is the Senior Instructor and director of the Institute. His martial arts study began in 1970 under Master Alan Lee in New York City. As an attorney, Sifu Burris also provides consultation and other services for business and individuals engaged in international trade matters and immigration law.
Sifu Burris came to Washington, DC in 1975 and enrolled in Master Wily Lin's Kung Fu School. He received his first Black belt degree in 1978. Soon he became Senior Instructor at the Shaolin Wu Shu Academy in Washington, DC. During this period, Sifu Burris won major competitions all over the country. He was Region #10's number 1 weapons competitor.
In 1983, Sifu Burris received his Wu Shu certification in Chengdu, China. In 1985, while attending the American University Law School, he studied Chinese International Trade Law and Wu Shu at Beijing University. In 1987, 1997 and 1999 he returned to China and obtained additional certification from Beijing's prestigious Cha Shi Hai Institute (Jet Li's training center and home of the Beijing Wu Shu Team).
Aside from being a national judge for NASKA and USAWKF, Sifu Burris is a well respected and highly ranked regional and national fighter. He was the 1992 NASKA Virginia State Heavy Weight Champion. In 1993 Sifu Burris was selected to represent the United States in the full contact division during the World Championships in Malaysia.
Sifu Burris has conducted martial arts classes at Dennis Brown's Shaolin Wushu Kung fu Academy, American University, the Inter- American Development Bank, the National Labor Relations Board, Sallie Mae, TRW, The Skyline Clubs, The McLean Racket and Health Club, U.S. Tae Kwon Do College, Abingdon, Nottingham and McKinley Elementary Schools and he was director of the Martial Arts program at Olympus Gym & Fitness Center of Falls Church.
Strong character, integrity, and the ability to achieve quick results have made Sifu Burris one of the most highly sought martial arts instructors in this area. Sifu Burris' high standards and proficiency have enabled him to guide his students to their fullest potential. Some have achieved U.S. National A Team selection and 1st Place Blackbelt National ranking after several years of vigorous training with Sifu Burris.
Sifu Burris continues his studies with Master Wily Lin in order to preserve his authenticity of the Tien Shan Pai Shaolin School's tradition

Congratulations to both Master King and to Sifu Burris for being Karate Kidz Online Teachers of the Month for September 2002.

Coming straight from Team Charlie Lee is future star 14 year old Ryan Pinkston from Highland, Maryland is a martial artist, dancer, and actor. In karate, he is a member of Team Charlie Lee, and also a member of the sychronized forms team Team Air with adult superstar Anthony Atkins. Team Air ended 2000 ranked #1 in team synchronized forms (and believe me, they deserve it!). Ryan also does a great job competing individually. He's one of the most entertaining to watch in forms competition. Though he's more well-known for open forms competition, Ryan consitently wins his traditional form division. In 2001, Ryan moved on to a new weapon, nunchuks, for his musical weapons division, and is now stretching his limits by competing in traditional weapons with the bo staff, all a testament to his wide range of talent. Also, Ryan recently appeared on a talented kids special on the Jenny Jones Show and won Ed McMahon's Next Big Star Talent Search this July. He wants to start an acting career, and after the Jenny Jones show aired, he got an agent to get him started on that. Congrats, Ryan! This kid is well on his way to becoming a star. He is our Choice for September 2002.
Congratulations to Ryan Pinkston for being Karate Kidz Online Student of the Month for September 2002.
