Golden Gate University Names Larry Abeln Dean of Business School
Golden Gate University has names a new business school dean with experience from Georgetown and MIT Universities.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., September 17, 2002 - Former Georgetown and MIT Business School leader, Lawrence S. Abeln, has been appointed Dean of the School of Business at Golden Gate University.
"During our nationwide search for a new dean, our goal was to find someone who could both strengthen our business programs and inspire the people around him, from undergraduates to graduates, executives and faculty," said Dr. Philip Friedman, Golden Gate University's president. "With Larry, we've exceeded our goal--he's a key addition to GGU's management team."
"At GGU, I want to maintain the school's commitment to providing a diverse range of business programs while simultaneously increasing the value they offer," commented the new dean, Larry Abeln. "We have an opportunity here to become a world-class school whose graduates are recognized leaders."
In his role as dean, Abeln is responsible for the leadership and management of the school which delivers undergraduate and graduate programs in business, including MBA, executive MBA, DBA and specialized master's degree programs. Recently, the Ageno School of Business at Golden Gate University launched a new Executive MBA program, allowing working professionals to accelerate their careers with a focused, weekend curriculum.
Previously, Abeln served as the Associate Dean of the Business School at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he oversaw the MBA programs and served as Director of the MBA Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management. Under Abeln's aegis, both schools consistently achieved the highest rankings in Business Week, Financial Times, Forbes and U.S. News and World Report. In addition to his academic institute achievements, he has been a successful entrepreneur with extensive business experience in the real estate industry.
A Phi Beta Kappa undergraduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Abeln earned a masters degree in International Relations at the University of Cambridge in England and completed doctoral work in Management where he studied as a Rotary Foundation Scholar.
