Why: In honor and tribute to those tragically claimed in the disastrous attack on our nation in NYC, Washington DC and Pennsylvania.
Reaction: As if on cue, the clouds gave way to sunshine just as the mood shifted from sadness to celebration. After a somber moment of silence, "Taps" and a 21-gun salute Wednesday for victims of 9/11, Miss Kentucky 2001 Monica Hardin's "No Place Like America" put a patriotic spin on the remembrance ceremony. As she sang, the gray, low clouds moved aside and were replaced by brilliant blue skies and bright sunshine.
"(It was as if) it was planned," Shelby County High School senior Jennifer Gilbert said after the event, which drew an estimated 3,000 people -- "It was awesome." (The Sentinel-News, Shelbyville KY) September 13, 2002
