New Publishing Company Launched by Colorado Author

New digital publishing company launches that actually helps authors market their books by including e-commerce web pages.

September 23, 2002 -- Denver, Colorado -- Roughly 25 million Americans actively write but less than 5% of them get published. Denver-based author Brent Sampson has faced those statistics head-on and today announced plans to change them forever with the formation of Outskirts Press, a digital publishing company specializing in the publication, distribution, and marketing of books by those remaining 23 million writers.

"In the near future, all book publication will be digital," Sampson stated. As recent films like Star Wars: Attack of the Clones demonstrate, digital is affecting all forms of media. The quality is comparable, the storage capacity greater, not to mention more economical, and the turnaround is quicker."

What separates Outskirts Press from other digital publishers are their marketing services, including press release distribution and, most impressively, e-commerce web pages. Each web page is created exclusively for the author to promote and sell their book, and features a unique URL (web page address), search engine, and secure shopping cart. Title and author information such as cover art, ISBN, sample excerpts, authors biography, and author's photo are included.

Digital print-on-demand technology addresses the economic stranglehold controlling traditional publishing by utilizing high-speed, high-quality printers and a worldwide distribution network already in place, namely, the Internet. Todays largest book retailer isnt down the street, its down the cyber-highway," Sampson continued. Namely, at Amazon.com." By registering unique ISBN numbers with the Ingram Database and Books in Print" catalogue, new writers can enjoy the same title availability as authors represented by traditional publishers. Our books are available at Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobel.com, Borders.com, and from every book retailer that uses the Ingram Database or 'Books in Print catalogue." That translates to over 25,000 brick-and-mortar retailers.

Singing the praises of digital publishing are environmentalists who applaud the increased efficiency and decreased waste. Prior to print-on-demand, unsold book copies were typically destroyed by retailers, resulting in unnecessary abuse of the worlds precious resources. Outskirts Press books are stored digitally and then produced as high-quality trade paperback and hardback books only when ordered. 100% of our books get read," Sampson claimed, because we produce only to meet the demand." Print-on-demand technology makes this possible. A book can be printed, bound, and mailed to a reader within 48 hours of their order. Traditional publishers do not have this type of business model, so they have to turn away very talented writers. Now, with Outskirts Press, those writers get to share their voices with the world."

About Outskirts Press -- By combining the technical advancements of digital printing and distribution, Outskirts Press publishes and promotes quality paperback and hardback books from new and established writers alike. They allow writers the chance to submit manuscripts online, and have their accepted books published, distributed, and marketed worldwide. Outskirts Press is open 24 hours a day at http://www.outskirtspress.com.
