SIOUXLAND WICCANS CELEBRATE FALL EQUINOX BY COLLECTING FOOD FOR THE NEEDY

30 Wiccans gathered in Sioux City's Stone Park to celebrate the autmun equinox and collect food donations.

SIOUX CITY, IA- About thirty Wiccans gathered Saturday, Sept. 21 in Stone Park to celebrate the Autumn Equinox, collecting food donations for the Tri-State Food Bank. The event was hosted by Windfyre, a community service organization, and the Siouxland First Wiccan Congregation.

Wicca is an earth-based religion whose roots lie in the pre-Christian faiths of Europe.

A harvest festival, the Autumn Equinox is the final Sabbat of the Wiccan year. The event included the casting of a Sacred Circle, and crowning of a Harvest Queen and King. The assembled Wiccans filled a large basket and wicker cornucopia with nonperishable food items that will be donated to the Tri-State Food Bank later this week.

After the Circle, a feast featuring seasonal dishes was served.

It has been a great opportunity for us to come together and celebrate as a religious and spiritual community," said Patrick Persinger, Director of Windfyre. Not only that, it has given us the opportunity to give back to those outside of our (Wiccan) community."
