SMART DEVICE DUMB IDEA, DUMB DEVICE BRIGHT IDEA
The ESP Device throws a monkey wrench into the deals to make the Mira device and a major blow to Microsofts attempt to command yet another stronghold. Manufactures may need to re-think their strategy.
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 24, 2002-The Network Domain Company NetworkDomain.com has the ESP", a device for the digital home" far superior to Microsoft Mira and the XP Media Center concept. This new device concept is similar to what is known as a Dumb Terminal" as nick named for not having a CPU. This device uses wireless networking to make any PC operation portable but also supports dual display. The device displays one of the 2 outputs while the other is displayed on a large monitor. The device can swap the display outputs to either monitor. The unit has a keypad and pointing device thus enabling all computer and remote control functions combined with entertainment and Internet.
It has major advantages over the Microsoft Mira device as it enables open architecture and multiple operating systems choices. It has the normal PC interface so users dont need to learn to use a new device or operating system. With no CPU or RAM, in essence it is a remote control. Sometimes less is more; lower manufacturing cost, less to go wrong, and nothing to go obsolete. This concept harnesses the multitasking and multi display abilities of the PC in a new and clever way. The company has another major breakthrough awaiting release and has not thus far decided on manufacturing partners. This ESP device throws a monkey wrench into the deals to make the Mira device and a major blow to Microsofts attempt to command yet another stronghold.
This device delivers on the promise of the Digital Home" and also opens the floodgates to all PC related entertainment products designed for the standard architecture PC. These inexpensive products can soon make there way into the home entertainment center. The HTPC (Home Theater PC) can now gracefully join with the HDTV with comfort and style. This product marks a new era for the consumer electronics and PC industries.
With the introduction of this device and concept the makers of cable box, set top box, and game box should condense their offering to software and a card or USB device for use in the open standards based HTPC. If designed for the dual display system of the new ESP device these offerings would become very practical rather than very proprietary.
For the consumer this means the need to purchase multiple home electronics and a separate PC are over. The device enables a one entertainment and computing purchase concept for the consumer. The reason for this is while a movie is playing on the large screen the ESP device can be displaying any program or game with out disruption to the movie. Watch out Xbox and PlayStation HTPC is now invincible.
