Can A Song Heal Americas Broken Heart? One American Hopes It Will.
A resident of Fremont, CA, after the events of Sept.11, 2001, wanted to pay tribute to fellow Americans for their strength, solidarity and inner spirit. Her desire is to help them heal after the tragedy.
Fremont, CA--September, 26, 2002-- The heart of America was broken" is how one Fremont, CA resident summed up the sadness that blanketed our homeland after the events of September 11, 2001. And not just America, but the heart of everyone that respects and desires the freedoms we enjoy here--the heart of all of our friends that love us." As Ty Brown watched the televised events unfold that morning, she continued to ask herself Who could hate this much? Why would anyone hate US so much?" Her tear stained face hardened as she glared at her television, waiting for someone to try to justify this insanity. She dared them! But no one did. Everyone got it right! It was evil-pure evil! She began to pray for the families that lost loved ones that day. She prayed for our leaders. She prayed for those that dedicated themselves to protecting our free land and protecting our citizens.
Ty stated that as the days went on red, white and blue flags appeared everywhere. Cars, homes and store windows displayed our loyalty. It was the evidence of everyone trying to find ways to shout --We are proud Americans! We are united! The display of patriotism was just so overwhelming." She went on to describe the unified effort as a body trying to heal itself and every part working diligently to restore the natural order of things by rushing to the aid of the wounded area." She was in awe of the American spirit. So inspired by what she witnessed, she wrote an original song she calls The Heart of America" and dedicated it to all Americans.
Her soulful rendition of patriotism speaks of our freedom, our diversity, our generosity and the unbreakable bond that these things help us to form with each other. Her chorus of --Sing! Let us sing! The world will hear our symphony. Playing songs for liberty, Our voices blending in harmony"--underscores the strong will of the American spirit, the American heart, to move ahead in the face of diversity. To stand against our enemies! To fight for what is right!
No aspect of the great responsibility that comes with our freedom is forgotten in her song, as is evident in the phrase Eager eyes of our children are watching, to continue the legacy. We will teach them, it begins with respect and equality." Finally, its all brought to a spine-chilling culmination with the familiar faithful words God Bless America," being sung with such passion distinctiveness that you are left with an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
I want people to have this song to sing when they start to remember the tragedy. It will remind them not to allow fear to dominate their hearts. It will help them to remember our resilience." Ty says. She also says that with Veterans Day approaching and the country on the brink of war with Iraq, she hopes her tribute will inspire others to remember those that have died protecting this country and those that are now serving.
The Heart of America" is truly a song of strength and triumph written from the heart of one loyal American. It pays homage to our inner spirit--our heart--the part of America that is often seen but quickly forgotten.
Let me be the first to say Thank you Ty. Your song will help to heal many broken hearts.
