"Giant" Competition for World-Record Grower

Scare Productions' PumpkinFest is an annual celebration of the orange gourds' likeness that takes place in the Beach Park adjacent to Scare's annual benefit Haunted House in the heart of Des Moines, Washington.

This year, PumpkinFest will host the Pacific North West Giant Pumpkin Growers Association-International Pumpkin Association (IPA) Weigh-off at 6:30 pm on Saturday, October 19th 2002. PNWGPG-member G. Emmons of Sammamish, Washington established the world record in 2001 with a giant weighing 1262 lbs. The excited whisper in the wings among the growers is that there may be a contender for the title in the upcoming weigh off.

In addition to the Weigh-off, Scare's PumpkinFest will be sponsoring the following events and activities:
 Pumpkin painting for the adults and kids Every Friday and Saturday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm
 Skilled master pumpkin carvers carving the giant pumpkins of the Weigh Off on the 26th.
 The Great Pumpkin Massacre- the mass destruction of pumpkins by smashing, chain-sawing, and dropping from a 20-foot high lift.

Scare Productions began PumpkinFest as a make-shift celebration in 1999 during its presentation of the annual Scare House. It has grown from a simple weigh-off competition to 5 major events, many of which recur every weekend the show operates. This year, the Scare House will open on Friday October 11th and run through October 31st. The House is closed Mondays with the exception of the 28th of October, and operates during the hours of 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on weekdays and Sunday, and 7:00 pm to 12:00 am on Friday and Saturday.

Scare House Proceeds benefit the Des Moines Rotary Club.
