BOScom Launches New IP Telephony Gateways

Leicester, UK - - 26th September 2002 - - BOScom, who with TeleLynk (launched in Oct '99) were the first to perfect a PC-based VoIP solution for the SoHo market, as well as the first viable Web-to-phone system with e-TeleLynk, is now targeting the enterprise with the launch of a new Linux-based series of IP Telephony Gateways that will provide multi-branch and international SMEs and Corporates with the industry's most simple and low cost solution for free, toll quality telephone calls over both their existing data networks and the Internet.

To move on from TeleLynk and the numerous similar VoIP products that have since flooded the market, the BOScom engineers were asked to concentrate on four principal design criteria: ease of installation; total reliability; fast return on investment; and guaranteed voice quality - even over the public Internet.

As a result, the new BOSāNOVA IP Telephony LAN/WAN Gateways can be installed in just 5 minutes, aided by an intuitive wizard and self-learning techniques for streamlining equipment expansion. And to ensure reliability and easy maintenance, they feature a centralised, browser-based network management and remote monitoring system with simple to use menus for the administration of calling parameters, user lists, and security definitions as well as remote configuration and software upgrades.

They also feature a built-in gatekeeper, which eliminates the need for
an external gatekeeper and thus dramatically reduces the network maintenance requirements - which further improves reliability by ensuring that there can be no single point of failure.

Guaranteed high voice quality has been achieved using patent-pending algorithms which ensure delivery and maximum QoS.
Four compression protocols or codecs can be used for optimal compatibility and real-time bandwidth adjustment (between 6.3 and 64 KBits/second) along with an adaptive, smart jitter buffer. This process samples all arriving voice packets and dynamically changes the buffer size to close any voice gaps and thus achieve smooth, highest quality conversations.

And finally, with prices for the new BOScom Gateways starting at just 1,250 the return on investment may be expected within weeks rather than years.

Standards, Interoperability & Fax
The BOSāNOVA gateways provide optimised interoperability based on the standard H.323 V.3 protocol to work with all other vendors' H.323 compatible terminals, gateways and gatekeepers. BOScom also offers a flexible codec licensing scheme to provide mix-and-match support for G.729, G.723.1, G.711, A-law/u-law and NetCoder.

And fax support is provided by the implementation of the T.38 protocol. Quick establishment of fax calls is afforded by implementing the fast connection protocol in H.323.

Security
The BOSāNOVA gateways are protected against hackers and unauthorised access through the implementation of SSH (Secure Shell) and RADIUS multi-tier security software within the built-in gatekeeper.

"This allows users to install the IP Telephony Gateway outside their data network firewalls, thus maximising performance and customer access", says Graham Jacklin, Managing Director of BOScom Europe.

Gateways Now Available
The new BOSāNOVA IP Gateways may be connected to any
PBX and will support all functions provided - including IVR, call forwarding, conferencing and message systems. They may also be connected directly to PSTN lines via standard analog (FXO or FXS) or PRI digital (T1 or E1) connections. They are also scalable from 2 to 60 phone lines in rack-mountable 1U embedded form.

Target Markets
BOScom already has numerous successful installations in the UK, Europe, Israel and the USA. These include travel agencies, banks, stock brokers, motor dealers, mobile phone and IT companies - including BOScom themselves, linking their offices in the UK, France, Israel and the USA.
