"Watts" Up? Energy Deregulation: IT'S THE LAW!
Killeen, Texas - January 5, 2002 - Goodbye TXU! Farewell Reliant! Texas consumers are now exercising their "Power-to-Choose" under the Texas Electric Choice program. The Public Utility Commission of Texas established January 1, 2002 as the official opening of TXU and Reliant markets to full electricity deregulation. In spite of the already low "Price-to-Beat" of 6% price reduction, TXU and Reliant have not yet met the competitively low rates of newcomers into the market.
NewPower Electric Company, founded in 1997 and headquartered in New Jersey, has entered the market with a phenomally low 7.1 cent per kwh FIXED for one year. This is called the "Texas Super Saver" rate. Consumers have the option of choosing this low fixed rate through NewPower for an entire year, or electing to receive their promotional offer of FREE electricity during the month of December 2002. The given rate with the free Decembers would range from 8.1 to 10.0 cents per kwh. Very competitive compared to the old regulated providers.
Not only is this newcomer to the Texas energy market offering low, fixed rates and free service, they are signing consumers up at zero cost. There is zero cost for transferring service, nor is a deposit required. NewPower has adopted a credo of "Consumers First", with a guarantee of excellence in customer service.
Deregulation of the Utilities markets represents the breakup of the last big monopoly in America. Energy. Opportunities abound for individuals interested in pursuing a new career path. NewPower, for instance, has contracted with OptionEnergy to be their exclusive marketing affiliate for the purpose of customer acquisition. Representatives of OptionEnergy, apparently, are the only vehicle through which consumers can obtain the low 7.1 fixed rate. Those consumers opting to apply for new service directly through NewPower could expect to receive a 8.5 cent kwh rate, at best, with a monthly surcharge of $5.50.
Given the average competitor rates of 9.0 cents kwh, NewPower seems to be the the best consumer choice. To compare current market rates, visit the Wattage Monitor at http://www.wattagemonitor.com.
