Xybion Corporation, Sensor Positioning Systems wins LROSS contract

The Naval Research Laboratory awards a contract to Xybion for Long Range Optical Surveillance Systems (LROSS). The LROSS is a turnkey system, which will be used for acquiring, tracking, imaging and collecting data on targets of interest out to the horizon.

Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) October 2, 2002 -- Xybion Corporation, Sensor Positioning Systems (Xybion), a designer and manufacturer of adaptable, highly reliable, very accurate positioning systems, announced today that the Naval Research Laboratory -- Washington, D.C. has awarded it a contract to supply Long Range Optical Surveillance Systems (LROSS). The systems will be installed at various locations including sites outside of the United States. Xybion's COTS solution for LROSS is ideal for long-range surveillance applications including Homeland Defense applications. Similar systems have been previously delivered to the UK MOD, FBI, Air Force, Army and Navy (particularly NRL and SPAWAR), as well as various U.S. Defense Contractors.

The contracted systems consist of Xybion's SPS-1000 series pedestal and associated servo control unit, a daylight acquisition camera, a tracking camera with a 400 to 4,800 mm step-zoom telescope, a Remote Operators Workstation (ROW), and an image capture and storage system. The contract value will exceed $1.2 Million if all options are exercised.

The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is the Navy's corporate laboratory. NRL conducts a broadly based multidisciplinary program of scientific research and advanced technological development directed toward maritime applications of new and improved materials, techniques, equipment, system, and ocean, atmospheric, and space sciences and related technologies.

Xybions positioning systems are ideal for high-velocity positioning, to micro-radian accuracies, of optical sensors, lasers, radars, and communication antennas installed on land, sea and airborne platforms. Our standard designs are modular allowing inexpensive customization to accommodate payloads weighing from 5 to 1,200 lbs. Xybion also supplies turnkey systems, such as LROSS, incorporating industry-leading optics, lasers, video cameras, IR sensors, stabilization sensors, automatic video trackers and software. Custom designs for hardware, software, training and installation are also available to support customers with unique requirements.
