SIEMENS is to expand its Solution 1 business applications service throughout the United Kingdom, following a highly successful trial in the East and West Midlands.

SIEMENS is to expand its Solution 1 business applications service throughout the United Kingdom, following a highly successful trial in the East and West Midlands.

Solution 1's unique pay-as-you-go business communications service has already captured small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) across a range of sectors, from education and healthcare to legal, publishing and advertising.

Solution 1 business development director David Wright said: "Today's offices need telephony, emails, voice mail, virus checks, firewalls, switchboards and more, and historically most SMEs still set-up and maintain these systems internally.

"But increasingly businesses are seeing that Solution 1 can do it for them, leaving them to concentrate on their core business activity while also giving them the same tools as large Corporate Enterprises for the first time.

"Businesses in the Midlands, where we first launched Solution 1, are already benefiting from what we describe as an Outfrastructure for communications, as opposed to an infrastructure. Following the Midlands launch, Solution 1 moved into the North West in the summer.

"Solution 1 is proving Siemens was correct and in fact our service offering is improving all the time as we learn more from our clients about the issues they face with their communications".

Solution 1 combines a multi-million pound investment, the massive rollout of broadband applications in town and city locations, Siemens' global experience in both telecommunications and computing and partners such as Compaq and Microsoft. It means SME's can now have highly flexible state-of-the-art communications, and security levels to rival high street banks.

Customers for Solution 1 have pay-as-you-go access to applications such as Exchange 2000 email with online diaries and resource management facilities, IP based telephony to integrate IT and telephone systems into one and also the latest in messaging systems to unify all communications into one inbox. They also have the peace of mind of knowing that their email traffic, both inbound and outbound, is subject to a fully secure and encrypted network including three separate virus checks before delivery.
