Valicomm, Inc., a provider of validated communications management software and services, today announced the formation of the company and the launch of ValiMail™ for Microsoft Outlook™.

ValiMail Uses “Buddy List” Concept to Protect E-mail Accounts from Spammers

ValiMail for Microsoft Outlook is a software plug-in that effectively stops unsolicited e-mail, more commonly known as spam. A free trial version of ValiMail is now available for download at http://www.valicomm.com.

Whereas most anti-spam technologies can only mitigate the spam problem, ValiMail users can eliminate all spam messages without compromising the reliable communication of valid e-mail messages. Other anti-spam technologies such as content filtering, collaborative reporting, and blacklisting of e-mail accounts fail because they cannot consistently distinguish between valid messages and unwanted spam. The result of these partial solutions is partial spam mitigation and the potential for losing meaningful e-mails.

In contrast, ValiMail applies to e-mail the "buddy list" concept often found in instant messaging systems. An e-mail sender who is not already in a ValiMail user’s list of approved sender accounts is required to request the user’s permission to send e-mail messages to that account. The ValiMail user may then accept or decline future e-mails from the sender. The ValiMail service facilitates this permission granting process and also includes mechanisms to prevent spammers from automating permission requests – effectively protecting users’ e-mail accounts from spam.

Valicomm, Inc. Created to Empower Users

"We started Valicomm because, like other Internet users, we face the same problem of spam and have not had much success in stopping it with existing anti-spam solutions. With ValiMail, we are setting a new standard for end-user e-mail control. We are restoring for our users the order they once enjoyed in their e-mail inboxes," said Peter Kim, co-founder of Valicomm.

According to Ferris Research, in 2003 the average individual, even with spam filtering turned on, will still waste 15 hours per year identifying and deleting spam. This translates to an estimated annual productivity loss of $750 per employee for companies, and frustration from e-mail overload due to spam for the individual. Furthermore, Jupiter Research projects that the number of spam messages will rise from 60 billion in 2002 to 200 billion in 2006.

Valicomm addresses this costly plague with a solution that empowers users to control access to their electronic communications channels. Valicomm’s anti-spam technology is the first in a series of ValiMail product features that will create for users a hassle-free, reliable, and private Internet communications channel.
