Arcelik A.S., leading European appliance maker, announced today that its brand Beko, with 14.4% market share, takes leadership position in the total refrigerator market of UK, excluding freezers, by surpassing European competition in August 2002.

Istanbul, Turkey- October 2, 2002- Arcelik A.S., leading European appliance maker, announced today that its brand Beko, with 14.4% market share, takes leadership position in the total refrigerator market of UK, excluding freezers, by surpassing European competition in August 2002.

Its No.1 position in the refrigerator market is followed by Hotpoint with 14.1%, and Bosch with 6.2% market share, according to GfK figures for August 2002. In addition to its significant share in the refrigerator market, it also holds an 11% market share in the oven market.

During January-August 2002, Arcelik exported 490 thousand products to UK. Reaching € 71 million in exports, 91% of these were composed of refrigerators, of which 97% of them were the Beko brand.
