AMPHENOL COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF
K&K STAMPINGS RADSOK® BUSINESS UNIT
Sidney, NY, September 30, 2002 - Amphenol Corporation, a global leader in
interconnect systems, has announced that its Industrial Operations Division has completed the acquisition of the RADSOK® Business Unit of K&K Stamping, Detroit, MI. RADSOK technology allows higher amperages to be used in electrical connectors with lower insertion forces, which helps to alleviate millivolt drop and associated temperature rise.
Martin Booker, General Manager of Amphenol Industrial Operations, stated, This acquisition significantly enhances Amphenols global position as a leader in interconnect solutions. RADSOK allows us to provide our customers with unique packaging solutions as well as with connectors that have higher amperage with a smaller footprint and lower insertion forces."
RADSOK is a patented electrical terminal based on a hyperbolic grid configuration that ensures a large coaxial, face-to-face engagement area for a low milli-volt drop connection with a low insertion force. The cylinder contains elongated contactor strips connected in spaced, parallel relationships, twisted into a hyperbolic shape. As a male pin is inserted, the grid deflects, imparting high normal forces. The stamped grid and cylinder are very rugged, allowing for a high quantity of insertion cycles and off-axis insertions.

Amphenol plans to expand the current market focus of RADSOK technology from electric vehicle and automotive applications to additional target markets such as rail, mass transit, heavy equipment, industrial power, communications, military and aerospace as well as process control.
Amphenol connector solutions with RADSOK contacts provide a significantly lower insertion force and higher current capacity than conventional power solutions. Current Amphenol products with RADSOK technology include Power P-lok® connectors, a positive locking, spring loaded coupling, and the Amphe-Base connector series, which allows users to provide power to bus bars and backplane assemblies.
