Return From "Rock" Bottom
Ex-Pop Star Re-Composes Himself
Succeeding in life and in love are hard enough, especially when the dog eat dog world of professional music is your calling.
Imagine the odds, when you fall into a drug-aided spiral of depression and self-loathing.
Succeeding in life and in love are hard enough, especially when the dog eat dog world of professional music is your calling.
Imagine the odds, when you fall into a drug-aided spiral of depression and self-loathing, as shown in the new Off-Off-Broadway musical love story ALBERT & ALICE. With music, lyrics and story by Andrew McCann, "Albert and Alice"
is based upon his early experiences (real or imagined) living on Manhattan's Lower East Side. During this time Andrew underwent a mystical awakening that included his becoming aware of telepathic powers, automatic writing, speaking in different tongues, and befriending his own archangel.
Andrew McCann was a gifted teenager in the UK in the late 70s. He was a member of the rock groups, "Life" and "Tin Biscuit", both of whom had Top 40 singles and albums in Europe. Andrew went on to tour and perform on albums for top Rock acts including The Kinks, Peter Frampton and Uriah Heep. Andrew overcame his demons and obtained a Masters Degree in Musical Composition. In addition to Albert and Alice, he has composed 3 string quartets and a symphony,
all of which have been performed. He has never left the Lower East Side, where he is the Musical Director and Co-Composer, with Sony Music recording artist Shalaine Adams, and regularly performs in local night spots. Andrew is also producing and composing a dance CD with Saturday Night Fever star Karen Lynn Gorney.
Albert and Alice has been packing them in at the 50 seat Collective Unconscious on Ludlow St. The show is scheduled to run until 10/26, but has had feelers from Off-Broadway producers, to extend it's run at a more capacious venue. Producer Bernard Lucchesi arises each day at 2:30 AM to deliver mushrooms, so that he may devote his PM hours to the production.

INFORMATION FOR LISTING EDITORS
Albert & Alice are two crazy kids in love. Alice has given up a comfortable life in the suburbs, much to the dismay of her sister and brother-in-law, to be with Albert, a wannabe musician who makes ends meet by working as a taxi driver for one of the lesser quality cab companies in New York City. However, his temper and attitude over what he perceives as slights by his boss get him into trouble time and time again. Disgusted with his life and feeling
himself going nowhere, Albert turns to drugs to ease the pain - which quickly threatens to cost him everything he holds dear, including Alice.
As events play out, 3 mysterious entities arrive on the scene. Exactly who they and what they want are unclear. Are they angels trying to
steer Albert on the path to righteousness, devils wanting to drag him further into the abyss or a combination of both? And are they real or only products of Albert's unsettled mind, figures which only he can see? Whatever the answer, they appear to hold the key to Albert's final destruction or ultimate
redemption.
Currently running through October 26th, ALBERT & ALICE performs its magic at Collective Unconscious, at 145 Ludlow Street (between Stanton & Rivington Streets) on Fridays and Saturday nights at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10.00.
