CLINPHONE IN TECH TRACK 100 AGAIN
Nottingham-based ClinPhone Group - the provider of telephone and web-based IT solutions - has secured a top position again amongst the UK's most successful young technology companies.
The Tech Track 100 survey - which appears exclusively in the Sunday Times - ranks Britain's fastest growing unquoted technology companies based on their sales growth.
Inclusion in the Tech Track 100 capped a very successful week for the company, which also received two Queen's Awards for its innovation and export success.
ClinPhone - which has seen dramatic growth over the past three years - finished in 77th place nationally, higher than in 2001, and second in the East Midlands. The company has seen sales grow by more than 67% a year from 3.1 million in 1999 to 8.8 million 2001. This year, its trading results exceeded 15million at year-end with record profits up 70% on the previous trading period.
At a European level, ClinPhone's progress has also been maintained and it has been listed again in 'Europe's 500' a review of Europe's best companies undertaken by GrowthPlus, the non profit-making, Brussels-based entrepreneurial association.
Every year, the association produces a fully researched list of the 500 fastest growing companies in Europe. The companies are measured on job creation over three to five years and not just on financial performance. The survey looks at all EU countries plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. ClinPhone was ranked as the 124th fastest growing company in Europe - a jump of over 100 places - and was one of only 65 UK companies listed.
ClinPhone is the world leader in e-clinical trial management and has supported more than 700 trials in over 80 countries and almost 70 languages. It is the market leader in the design, development and management of bespoke telephone and Internet-based IT systems that dramatically reduce the costs and improve the efficiency of conducting clinical trials. It's systems, which were highly innovative only a few years ago, are now regarded as the industry standard.
Successful Tech Track companies are ranked according to their compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in sales between 1999 and 2001 and must be registered in the UK as unquoted or ultimate holding companies. The survey criteria is based on the London Stock Exchange's techMARK definition of a technology company as "one whose business growth and success is dependent on the development of one or more technologies and demonstrates technological innovation."
ClinPhone's success story began in 1993, when Dr Neil Rotherham and Dr Jonathan Engler formed the company to offer support services for the management of clinical trials. Study management is a crucial area that traditionally spiralled out of control particularly when hundreds or even thousands of patients were being recruited for trials in many time zones and languages all over the world.
A human operator-based system fulfilled early demand for ClinPhone's services but increasing business encouraged the development of a sophisticated and highly versatile Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system linking a standard telephone to complex computer database applications. The IVR system does all the jobs of a call centre and many more besides, providing a completely automated clinical trial management tool.
The ClinPhone system now integrates traditional IVR services with web-based applications to present clients with the most powerful and flexible Electronic Trial Management (ETM) solution available in the marketplace. ClinPhone continues to innovate and build on the services that have become the industry standard.
The company employs over 300 people worldwide and has offices in New Jersey, Chicago and San Francisco in the United States in addition to its HQ in Nottingham, England and a central European office in Brussels, Belgium.
