Understanding Parliamentary ProcedureŠ

Understanding Parliamentary ProcedureŠ
By Alex Richardson

Understanding Parliamentary ProcedureŠ (ISBN 0-9719603-0-5) is a unique, practical introduction to the subject. The simplicity and order of the presentation makes it easy for novices to learn. Those with some experience can fast-forward to unfamiliar material. This approach:

Gives a useable grasp of parliamentary procedure quickly

   Builds on the basic processes

Reduces dependency on charts and tables

Summary of key points is given at the end of each chapter

Gives the skills needed to be an effective group leader

Presents the essentials in Part 1 and advanced topics in Part 2

Is consistent with all major texts

Is equally useful for informal societies, non-profits and conventions

Alex Richardson has been President of the Livingston, New Jersey, Board of Education, a Director of the NJ School Boards Association, a member of the National Advisory Coordinating Council on Bilingual Education, a member of the American Institute of Parliamentarians and has been president of the Metropolitan NJ Chapter of AIP.

He has served as parliamentarian for Boards of Education, Delegates Assemblies, health care organizations, has conducted federal hearings and over 100 candidates-for-election forums. He has also served professional groups, college faculties, student groups and adult schools.

Over the 25 years, and in a variety of settings, an approach to learning parliamentary procedure has been developed. This approach concentrates on fundamentals and presents them in an easy to learn manner. Those with some knowledge of the subjects can move forward rapidly, filling in the gaps.

Mr. Richardson graduated with Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees from Cornell University and a Master of Science from Stevens Institute. He is a registered Professional Engineer in New Jersey and New York and is a certified paralegal.
