Worcester's Swan Theatre Fights For Its Future
Worcester's Swan Theatre is threatened with closure after Worcester City Council announced plans to slash the venue's grant by 83,000 to 54,000. Now West Midlands Arts is promising to pull the plug on matched funding of 179,000 if these cuts go ahead, making closure a certainty.

A campaign has been launched to save the popular venue; the reduction in the Theatre's grant has
been provoked by Worcester City Council's own financial crisis, a deficit in the budget of 400,000. Stephen Inman, leader of Worcester City Council recognises that the dramatic cut in budget will inevitably lead to closure.
The Swan is a thriving venue with a dynamic programme which embraces community and education initiatives; youth theatre; writer's Groups; dance; comedy; and a nationally touring theatre company.
A fighting fund has been established and plans are
afoot to heavily lobby Worcester City Council and West Midlands Arts, to have a change of heart.
