TrailBlazer Health Enterprises Selects PLEXIS Claims Manager to Administer Services for the Medicare Stop Smoking Program (MSSP)

Ashland, Oregon -- October 01, 2002 -- http://www.plexisweb.com">PLEXIS Healthcare Systems, Inc. announced today that TrailerBlazer Health Enterprises, LLC has purchased its core claims processing software, PLEXIS Claims Manager. PLEXIS' suite of products offers payers, benefit administrators and health plans the functionality to facilitate accurate and automatic claims adjudication, referral authorizations, benefit administration, and contract management. TrailBlazer is the Medicare Part B carrier for Texas, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Washington, D.C., and the Medicare Part A intermediary for Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.

The company employs more than 1,500 people at its main office in Dallas, branch offices in Timonium, MD, Richmond, VA, Albuquerque, NM, and other offices throughout Texas. In fiscal year 2002, TrailBlazer will process approximately 95 million claims and handle nearly 4 million inquiries, providing service to more than 4.5 million Medicare beneficiaries.

TrailBlazer was recently selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide services for the Healthy Aging Medicare Stop Smoking Program (MSSP). MSSP is a scientific research project that is examining certain smoking cessation interventions in a demonstration project format. Trailblazer's responsibilities include enrolling participants, processing claims for smoking cessation counseling and pharmacotherapy benefits, and collecting project-related data for evaluation.
