Project Harmony presents an opportunity for Azerbaijani, Georgian and Armenian FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange) students currently in the United States to take part in a pre-International Education Week activity. This online event brings Jon Elkind, former Director for Russian, Ukrainian, and Eurasian Affairs at the National Security Council and Vice President Gores advisor for the former Soviet Union, together with current FLEX students to discuss the relationship between the United States and the countries of the Caucasus in addition to a general discussion of public service in the U.S., foreign relations and national security. The chat will take place at 12:00 noon EST on Wednesday, October 30, 2002.
This event is held in honor of the third annual International Education Week, jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education. The online chat event is facilitated by Project Harmony. While International Education Week is November 18-22, 2002, this online chat event on October 30, 2002 will bring together FLEX students from three nations in preparation for the upcoming Week and its activities. During International Education Week (IEW) the importance of increasing student knowledge and awareness of the world's cultures, peoples, and languages will be emphasized. Bringing an international perspective into American classrooms is key to IEW activities. The students involved in this chat will take the knowledge gained during the event and share it with their American classmates and teachers during the week of November 18-22.
